The EU is the largest importer by value of marine ornamental fishes

ANIMALS, 11 June 2024: Our new scientific study shows that Europe represents the largest share by value of marine ornamental fishes. In 2021 this share constituted 24 million Euro. Between 2014 and 2021 about 26 million coral reef fishes were imported to Europe. Our watchlist alert system based on the number of specimens traded, import trends, and vulnerability index according to FishBase and IUCN Red List conservation status can provide key information on which species should require a closer scrutiny.
