CITES CoP19, Panama, 18.11.2022 – In the future, trade in guitarfishes (Rhinobatidae) will be controlled because today the proposal to list this family in Appendix II of CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species; www.cites.org) was decided by the world community. Guitarfishes, like many other cartilageous fishes such as sharks, are threatened mainly by the international trade in their fins. Some species are already on the brink of extinction.
